Good morning on this rainy Thursday!
We’re so close to the weekend, which is supposed to be beautiful so make sure you get outside this weekend and enjoy the weather! What better way to enjoy the weather than with a great meal and outdoor seating? With the never ending burger joints around the area it’s always hard to pick which one to go to when you are craving a burger. Of course you have the more fast food type places like Five Guys or Jakes Wayback then you have a more sit down place like Plan B, Burger Shakes and Fries-Harlan social and Napa & Co are also known for their burgers. There are a ton of other places that offer a great burger, but Burger Bar & Bistro in Norwalk, CT is by far my favorite. I really enjoy the burgers from the places listed above– except for Plan B, not a fan, but Burger Bar just knows how to cook a great
damn burger. They have indoor and outdoor seating which is awesome because I love having the option to sit outside on a beautiful day or inside if it’s too hot/cold out. They are located on one side of an alley walk through across from the movie theater and it allows for a nice place for kids to play around in while parents eat. They have toys for kids to play with and also offer corn hole which is pretty popular now a days! They are also dog friendly! Only outside of course but have dog bowls for water and even have a dog menu! The inside is surrounded by random pictures and paintings that make it a really bright and hip. It’s such a fun and cool place to go for great atmosphere and a great meal.
I have been to Burger Bar & Bistro a ton of times. Last time I went, before leaving, I told the manager Jamie, that I was doing a review. He was awesome and invited me back with a few friends to sample a few other things I haven’t had before to do an even bigger review. I of course took him up on the offer. I took a few friends last night and had a great time there and tried new things that I am so happy I tried because now I can’t wait to go back and be able to order different things! Alright, enough blabbling, lets get down to it. Sidenote: All of this food was not eaten last night, some pics are from 2 other times I have gone. We can’t eat THAT much.
Onion Rings & Fried Frickles- I am a lover of of both of these things and Burger Bar knows how to cook them. Their onion rings are huge and cooked to perfection in a light batter and served with a buttermilk southwest ranch dipping sauce. They are light and crunchy and the perfect onion ring. Fried Frickles– if you’ve been to Burger Bar before, you may notice they have changed their batter for the frickles, it used to be a batter almost like the onion rings and they were great, but these are now even better. They are crunchier and they don’t mask the dill pickle flavor. They are served with a tangy thousand island dressing that you want to dip just about everything in!
Disco Fries- If you like Brie cheese, this is where it’s at. I just started to get into disco fries and recently took a liking to Brie cheese. O-M-G. These are a must have almost every time for me. It even says on the menu that this is a customer favorite and I believe it! It’s perfectly cooked fries, with warm Brie cheese poured all over (the cheese pool on the bottom is unreal so don’t forget there’s cheese under all the fries in addition to whats poured on…the ending is the best). They also put a touch of truffle oil which just kicks the entire dish up an even bigger notch.
Spinach & Artichoke Dip- This I was pleasantly surprised about! I’ve tried spinach and artichoke dip before and I wasn’t a huge fan. Sometimes you get it tasting too much like spinach and other times you get it tasting too much artichoke. I find it never really has a balance so I’m always skeptical of ordering it out anywhere. SO happy I did. It was delicious. The perfect blend of both spinach and artichoke with pecorino cheese also. I think the pecorino did the trick for me and gave it a nice salty cheese flavor that was just delicious. I would definitely order this again.
Veggie Egg Rolls- The menu says it is made with seasonal vegetables and served with a Thai chili sauce but I am actually not sure what veggies were actually in there, I THINK it had cabbage and carrots. It was good and light for a fried egg roll but the thing that made the dish was the Thai chili sauce. The sauce completes the dish and is extremely flavorful with a hint of spice. The veggie egg rolls don’t have a ton of flavor but I think that’s because the sauce fixes that right up. Its almost like a sweet and sour sauce. These were not greasy at all which I liked! Very yummy.
Mac n Cheese- This is a big thing they are known for there and surprisingly I had never tried it before! I’ve heard great things about their mac and cheese so of course we had to get it. They have 3 different kinds– Lobster Mac n Cheese, Truffle Mac n Cheese with mushrooms, and regular. We went with regular but it was far from anything regular. It was delicious! Made with heavy cream, pecorino, cheddar and topped with seasoned breadcrumbs. It was perfect and our favorite app of the night. Usually the more cheese the better for me but this was just the right amount, not too much and definitely not too little. You could taste all the cheeses and the breadcrumbs on top topped it off. You also have the option to add bacon, ham, peas, and hot dog to your mac and cheese. I will definitely be trying mac n cheese from here again, next time, the truffle!
Green Bean Fries- I guess you can say this is the “healthier” alternative to the french fry..or we can just tell ourselves that! They take green beans, dip in batter and deep fry them. SO good. They are served with truffle aioli and such a perfect snack. We all enjoyed these!
Pecorino- Garlic Fries- I mean how can you complain about cheese, garlic and fries together? These were amazing. The fries were perfectly cooked and the pecorino and garlic just took regular fries to a different level. A lot of places offer these now but these may be my favorite!
Lobster Roll- I’ve been dying to try a lobster roll from here for a while now. I’ve had lobster roll’s before and just haven’t been impressed so I was pretty weary of ordering it from here but thought, if I’m going to order it from anywhere again, it might as well be from here where I’m never really disappointed. It came out and looked amazing and guess what? Tasted amazing too! The lobster was SO fresh that I was actually surprised by how fresh tasting it was! You can get it sauteed or as lobster salad, I ordered mine sauteed. It was cooked perfectly and the portion was huge! My only recommendation for this would be to have drawn butter on the side to pour over it. I would absolutely order this again.
Wagyu Burger- I’ve tried a Wagyu burger before and have only liked it from about 2 other places but it never wowed me. A friend I was with is a Wagyu lover and said she’s had it from here and it was amazing so we had to order it to try. My god was it good! The beef quality was amazing and the flavor was great. We ordered it with american cheese and caramelized onions. None of us even used a sauce or ketchup on this because it was just so good on it’s own. I was really impressed with how good it tasted and how well it was cooked. We had them cut our burgers into 4’s so we could all get a piece of each burger.
Buffalo Burger- Now this is a burger I’ve been wanting to try for years but was always too scared to order it in case i didn’t like it and then I was stuck with a big buffalo burger I didn’t want to eat. What better chance to try it then last night? I am so glad we ordered this because it was AMAZING. We ordered it medium but because of the type of beef it is, it comes out more red looking. We got it with cheddar cheese and bacon, such a perfect combo. Their bacon is thick applewood smoked bacon and tastes amazing. I thought that the buffalo burger would taste more grass like or just a weird beef flavor but it didn’t. I guess the quality of meat they use is just so high that you don’t get much of a different flavor. I will definitely be ordering this or the Wagyu burger on my next visit! I heard the Elk burger is even better but I have yet to try that one!
Turkey Burger- This was your average turkey burger. I wanted to try it in case someone wanted a more healthy option. It’s pretty basic, seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic. I would have liked it with a little more flavor and a little less cooked, but over all it was a good healthier alternative than your regular burger.
Build your own burger- Build your own burger for me, is a must have at a burger place. It’s just the best thing if you can’t decide what you want from their signature burgers or want to combine a bunch of toppings from the signature burger. I usually do this every time I go now AND the best part is, you can build your burger with any meat! On one of my last visits here I ordered a regular burger and topped it with mushrooms, frizzled onions, cheddar cheese, pico de gallo, a fried egg, and jalapeno mayo….AMAZING. Everything came together perfectly! Why just choose one topping when you can have all of the best ones?! The reason I love this place so much is because they always cook my burger PERFECT. I order everything medium rare and unfortunately at some places you just don’t get that, and some places don’t even offer it! When I want a perfectly cooked burger, Burger Bar & Bistro is where I go.
Last night we also had a few mojito specials…We had a pineapple and a strawberry mojito. They were so refreshing and delicious. A little pricey running at $12 bucks a drink for not so big of a glass, but it was a really really great mojito. I had two 🙂
I have also had an Adult Moo shake there before…I am a milk shake lover and if you are too, ORDER ONE. I ordered a Death by Chocolate which was made with Godiva Mocha Chocolate Liqueur, Three Olives Chocolate
Vodka, and Chocolate Ice Cream. SO SO good. They have 6 different adult moo shakes and you will definitely find one, or two, or all 6 to fall in love with!
Overall on a scale of 1-5 I give this place 5 big bites! They never disappoint and the staff is always accommodating. If you want something made special they have no problem making it. I have to say a special thanks to James, Hector, and Jesus for inviting me back for another amazing experience. Food was great, service was great, and the staff treated us so well. Please go check these guys out, you wont be disappointed. I will of course be back very soon!
